Contributing to your Account

Minimize

Contributions into your account may occur in the following ways:

Employer contribution

Government legislation requires your employer to pay a minimum level of compulsory Superannuation Guarantee Contributions (SGC) for you. This minimum level, as a percentage of your ordinary time earnings, is currently 9% where earnings exceed $450 per month. If you are covered by an Award or Employment Agreement that specifies an amount that is more than the SGC amount, your employer must pay the higher amount on your behalf.

Salary sacrifice contribution

You may have an arrangement with your employer to have a portion of your salary taken out and paid as extra contributions to your super account before you pay tax.

Note:

There is a limit to the amount of salary sacrifice you can make before incurring extra tax. Please refer to the Australian Tax Office (ATO) website – www.ato.gov.au for further information.

Personal contribution

You can make a personal (after tax) contribution at any time.

Contribution may be made via:

1.    Cheque

Rollover

You can transfer superannuation benefits from your other superannuation fund/s to ACSuper. This will not only consolidate your superannuation to one place for easy access and tracking, but will also help you save in the fees paid to each of the superannuation accounts you have.

To transfer your other superannuation benefits, please complete the “Rollover Request” form. You can download the form from www.acsuper.com.au or call our client service team on 1800 856 653.

Government co-contribution

If your income is below the government co-contribution threshold for the financial year, you may be entitled to the co-contribution payment if you make a personal contribution.

For further details on government co-contributions, please refer to the Australian Tax Office (ATO) website – www.ato.gov.au
