ACSuper have negotiated a special salary definition that includes fringe benefits as follows:
Salary is defined as the member’s annual remuneration from their usual occupation before deduction of income tax. It includes the following:
- Cash Salary;
- Regular overtime (average over the previous three years, or since the insured member started his or her current occupation, if less);
- The monetary value of non-cash benefits, e.g. salary sacrifice contributions or fringe benefits or the monetary value of exempt fringe benefits;
- Performance related commission bonuses and other monetary benefits, averaged over the previous three years, or since the insured member started his or her current occupation, if less; or
- Where the insured member directly or indirectly owns all or part of the business from which he or she earns his or her income, the total amount earned by the business over the financial year as a direct result of the insured member’s personal exertion or activities through his or her usual occupation, less his or her share of business expenses, but before the deduction of income tax, for that business (or the relevant proportion for part of a financial year).
