If you don’t want to choose how your superannuation is invested, you don’t have to. The Trustee will invest it on your behalf in the Fund’s default investment option (the Ethical Balanced option).
Yes. You are able to switch your investment option at any time. Your switch will be processed as at the day the request was received by ACSuper Administration and placed in a pending queue till the next unit price is calculated as ACSuper has a forward pricing policy to ensure equity to all members by minimising any arbitrage of prices due to extreme market movement.
There is no switching fee.

The Balanced, Ethical Balanced, Growth, Ethical Growth and High Growth Shares options have a strategic allocation of 5% of their holdings in the Alternative Asset Allocation. In this way, the Fund seeks to add value to each investment option without significant exposure to volatility or risk to capital.
Objectives of the Alternative Asset Allocation are as follows:
- Alternative investments differ from traditional investments because they focus on absolute returns rather than returns that are relative to a benchmark, and aim to achieve positive returns in both rising and falling markets.
Unlike managers of traditional funds, alternative managers employ a range of investment strategies to give them flexibility in managing portfolios. Alternative investments involve a higher degree of risk than traditional asset classes, principally because they tend to engage in leveraging and other speculative investment practices that may increase the risk of investment loss. However, the Fund’s investment strategy uses a diversified portfolio of alternative investments which is generally less risky than any single alternative investment strategy held on its own. - Maximise investment returns by investing in a range of strategies which include; global macro, long/short, market neutral, relative value, arbitrage, distressed debt, options, event driven and fixed income. The variability of returns over shorter periods is likely to be relatively high.
- The objective is to provide investors with capital growth over the long term through a range of alternate strategies. Due to the volatility of the markets, in which the Fund invests, it may not be suitable as a short term investment.
- Over rolling five year periods the before tax and fees return should exceed the UBS Bank Bill index plus 2.5% on a risk-adjusted basis.
